SS 202 Pipe Manufacturer in India

SS 202 Pipe Manufacturer in India Since 1962

SS 202 stainless steel pipe is an austenitic chromium-manganese-nickel grade manufactured by Siddhgiri Overseas as a lower-cost alternative to SS 304, using manganese and nitrogen to offset a portion of the nickel content while keeping strength, hardness, and surface appearance broadly comparable to standard austenitic stainless. Manufactured since 1962 at our Mumbai facility, SS 202 pipe is supplied in round, square, and rectangular profiles across mill, brushed/satin, and mirror-polished finishes, sized for architectural trim, interior railings and balustrades, furniture framing, and decorative fabrication work. It is a dry, indoor-use grade — well suited to interior applications where budget matters, but not a substitute for SS 304 or 316 where outdoor exposure or humidity is involved. Every batch goes through dimensional checks before dispatch, and Mill Test Certificates are available on request. This page covers SS 202's chemistry, standards, sizing, finishes, and where the grade is and isn't the right choice.

SS 202 is an austenitic chromium-manganese-nickel stainless steel pipe grade, built around the same austenitic crystal structure as the more familiar 300-series grades but with a different balance of alloying elements. Where SS 304 relies primarily on nickel to stabilize the austenitic structure, SS 202 substitutes a portion of that nickel with manganese and nitrogen, which brings the material cost down while keeping strength, hardness, and general appearance close to standard austenitic stainless.

Nitrogen, present up to 0.25% max, is added deliberately as a structural hardener — it improves the pipe's resistance to denting and surface scratching, which is useful in furniture framing and fabrication contexts where the pipe surface stays visible and gets handled during installation.

Siddhgiri Overseas has manufactured stainless steel pipe in Mumbai since 1962. SS 202 pipe from our facility goes through dimensional checks before dispatch, and Mill Test Certificates are available on request for every supplied batch.

Chemistry & Standards

SS 202's chemistry is defined by its chromium-manganese-nickel-nitrogen balance:

Chromium (Cr)

17% – 19%

Nickel (Ni)

4% – 6%

Manganese (Mn)

7.5% – 10%

Nitrogen (N)

Up to 0.25% max

The manganese and nitrogen content is what allows SS 202 to use less nickel than SS 304 without giving up the austenitic structure — nitrogen in particular adds structural hardness that helps offset the lower nickel level.

Standard cross-reference for SS 202 pipe:

DIN

1.4373

EN

X2CrMnNiN17-7-5

ASTM

A554 Grade MT202 (welded mechanical tubing)

SS 202's companion grade, SS 201, is covered under DIN 1.4372 / EN X12CrMnNiN17-7-5 / ASTM A554 Grade MT201, with a slightly lower nickel content and higher cold-workability — sometimes the preferred choice for structural sections that require heavy cold-forming.

Sizes & Finishes

SS 202 pipe is supplied by Siddhgiri Overseas in three profile shapes to match different fabrication and structural needs:

  • Round pipe: OD from 9.5mm to 114.3mm
  • Square pipe: face size from 12.7mm to 100mm
  • Rectangular pipe: from 10x20mm up to 50x100mm

Wall thickness across all three profiles ranges from 0.5mm to 3.0mm, allowing selection based on load requirements and fabrication method — thinner gauges for lightweight framing and trim, heavier gauges where the pipe carries structural load.

Three surface finishes are available:

  • Mill finish: the as-manufactured, unpolished surface — suited to applications where the pipe will be painted, cladded, or otherwise concealed.
  • Brushed/satin finish (grit 240/320): a directional, low-glare surface commonly specified for visible interior fittings and furniture framing.
  • Mirror-polished finish (grit 600+): a high-reflectivity surface for decorative and display applications where appearance is the priority.

All dimensions are checked before dispatch to confirm they fall within the ordered tolerance.

Applications

SS 202 pipe is built for dry, indoor use, and it performs well in that setting:

  • Architectural trim and interior fit-out
  • Interior railings and balustrades
  • Modular and retail furniture framing — table legs, display racks, shelving units
  • Decorative grilles and interior window frames

In these settings, SS 202 gives fabricators strength, hardness, and surface appearance close to what SS 304 offers, at a lower material cost — which is why it's a common choice for budget-conscious interior fabrication and furniture work where corrosion exposure is minimal.

Where SS 202 is not the right choice: outdoor installations, marine or coastal environments, and any high-moisture or high-humidity setting. The lower nickel content in SS 202, compared to SS 304, means meaningfully reduced corrosion resistance — it will not hold up outdoors or in humid coastal air the way SS 304 or SS 316 will. For exterior railings, marine fittings, or any application exposed to weather or salt air, SS 304 or SS 316 pipe is the appropriate choice, not SS 202.

Certifications

Siddhgiri Overseas is ISO certified for quality, occupational health & safety and environment management, and holds the import and export certification required to supply stainless steel pipe and tube to customers worldwide. Certificate copies are available on request for buyers who need them for their own compliance records.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About SS 202 Pipe

For dry, indoor applications — furniture framing, interior railings, decorative trim — SS 202 offers strength, hardness, and appearance close to SS 304 at a lower material cost, since manganese and nitrogen substitute for part of the nickel content. It is not a substitute for SS 304 outdoors or in humid environments, where the lower nickel content gives it noticeably less corrosion resistance.

No. SS 202's lower nickel content compared to SS 304 gives it meaningfully less corrosion resistance, and it is not recommended for outdoor, high-moisture, or marine/coastal environments. For those conditions, SS 304 or SS 316 pipe is the appropriate grade.

Both are chromium-manganese-nickel grades in the same family, but SS 201 has a slightly lower nickel content and higher cold-workability than SS 202, which makes it a preferred option for structural sections that need heavy cold-forming.

SS 202 is an austenitic stainless steel, and austenitic grades are generally non-magnetic or only weakly magnetic in their annealed state, though cold working can introduce some magnetism at the surface.

Siddhgiri Overseas supplies SS 202 pipe in mill (unpolished), brushed/satin (grit 240/320), and mirror-polished (grit 600+) finishes, across round, square, and rectangular profiles.

Round pipe is available from 9.5mm to 114.3mm OD, square pipe from 12.7mm to 100mm face size, and rectangular pipe from 10x20mm to 50x100mm, with wall thickness from 0.5mm to 3.0mm across all profiles.

SS 202 corresponds to DIN 1.4373, EN X2CrMnNiN17-7-5, and ASTM A554 Grade MT202, the welded mechanical tubing specification covering architectural, structural, and ornamental use.
